Partners from organisations in the six European nations involved in Replace 2– UK, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands – gathered at Coventry University on April 22-26 for the official kick off to the project to share knowledge and training expertise with each other. This experience was highly beneficial allowing all partners to learn best practice from one another in moving forward with community engagement for the first phase of this project. Following the official project press release, Dr Katherine Brown was invited to speak on the BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Clive Eakin radio show on Friday, April 26 to discuss the issue of FGM affected communities in the EU and the aims of the Replace 2 project. Dr Brown discussed the importance of working together with communities to develop techniques and strategies that are appropriate and feasible to build change within affected communities. In national news, difficulties in addressing female genital mutilation here in the UK were discussed at the House of Lordson Monday, 22 April 2013. Forward UK’s involvement in addressing FGM practice in affected communities was addressed.
