Representatives from REPLACE 2 (Coventry University and Forward) attended a meeting in London, coordinated by DFID, to discuss a call for bids relating to their programme of Social Norms Change regarding FGM. The programme includes four components: community level social change programming; policy engagement; social change communications interventions (Catalyse); and research and learning. DFID’s £35 million funding to end FGM is primarily aimed at addressing social change interventions in Africa, however they do recognise the importance of engaging with diaspora communities and have thus earmarked funding for activities conducted with FGM affected communities in the UK. After the meeting, representatives from a number of high profile organisations working in the area of FGM approached Dr. David Beecham in order to ask question and find out more about the work REPLACE 2 was conducting. Many of these organisations were very impressed with the behavioural change approach being explored by REPLACE 2 and were keen to be kept abreast of the last news and developments. It is clear that REPLACE 2 can significantly contribute to the work DFID are undertaking and therefore we will be making a concerted effort to collaborate with other organisations in the coming months to submit a strong proposal for DFID funding.
